William Sas Died Friday-Former Blair Merchant Passed Away at his Home in St. Paul, Minn.-In Business Her for Time

Fred Sas and his sister, Mrs. Freeman Parish, received word last Friday evening of the death of their brother, William, at his home in St. Paul at 9 o’clock in the evening. He had been ill for some time with hardening of the arteries.

William was the eldest of the family, having been born in Lapier County, Michigan, June 6th, 1855, so was 72 years of age last June. The family moved to Boone, Ia. When he was a young man, and there he grew to manhood and was married to Miss Maria Zimbleman.

A few years after their marriage they came to Blair and Mr. Sas first engaged in business here with J. Estaque in about 1889. About a year later he formed a partnership with his brother, Rudolph and they bought out Haller Bros. proprietors of a general store here for a number of years. Some four years later John and Fred bought Will’s interest and founded Sas Bros., which firm built the large brick department store now conducted by Will Sas, son of Rudolph.

William was in Iowa for a time, later settling in St. Paul, where he bought several rental properties and made that his permanent home. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, Ida, Mrs. Carl Wicht, Catherine, and Margaret Sas, all of St. Paul. Their oldest daughter, Eva Paysen, died leaving one son Carl.
