Buried in Blair Cemetery

At his residence in this city, last Saturday at 5 p.m., Mr. N.P. Borup, one of our most respected German citizens. He was born in Schleswig, Holstein in 1823 and next January would have been 74 years of age. His health had been poor for a long time and death came as a welcome relief. His funeral was from Germania hall on Monday afternoon last and was largely attended by his relatives and many old friends. Mr. Hauck made a fitting address and deceased was interred in Blair Cemetery by the side of his last wife.

Next week the REPUBLICAN will contain a sketch of his useful and honorable life.

Obituary

THE REPUBLICAN gives below additional facts in regard to our deceased fellow citizen, Mr. N.P. Borup, who died on June 19, aged 74 years, 5 months and 19 days.

He was born in Schleswig Holstein and in his youth learned the trade of copper or locksmith. He was a soldier in the German and Danish war of 1848. In 1853 he came to America and married his first wife, a widow with three children, at Belleville, Illinois, in 1855. In 1856 they came to Nebraska and located on a farm near DeSoto. Two years later in June, his wife died from the bite of a rattlesnake and was buried in the old DeSoto cemetery. July 3rd, 1865, the family moved back to Illinois where Mr. Borup married again and returned to DeSoto to live on his homestead which is now apart his estate. The second wife died Feb. 14, 1878 and was buried in the Blair cemetery.

The children by this marriage were: Bertha, now Mrs. Kessler, of this city, Amanda, now Mrs. Geo. Huber, of Irvington , and Louise, now Mrs. Joseph Nowack, of Blair Tp. Mr. Hugleman and Mrs. Chris Wachter of Herman were children of the first family.

Deceased was largely a self-educated, liberal minded and patriotic good citizen. Scrupulously honest himself, he loved justice and equality between man and man. His memory will be cherished faithfully by his family and many friends.
