Kirchhoff, Dr. Leo H. Jul 14, 1938 - Oct 24, 2017 Dr. Leo Kirchhoff died at Enloe Medical Center, Chico, CA, after a brief illness. Born on a small farm near Weeping Water, NE, he frequently celebrated Bastille Day in Paris which is also his birthday. Leo was an enthusiastic educator, with more than 53 years of teaching, and held Professor Emeritus status. He taught in Fremont, Omaha, and Blair, NE, and Chico University, CA. Fulbright grants allowed him to teach in several countries, including Malawi, where his students shared textbooks while sitting on a dirt floor in a quonset. He was a soccer fan and world traveler, making many friends while traveling on all seven continents. Those left to cherish his memory are sister, Erma (Bernie) Bettinger; sister-in-law, Gladys (Glenn) Kirchhoff; nieces: Diane (John) Reuss, Vicki (Jay Carstens) Kirchhoff, Coralie (Mark) Harris, Amy (Stefan) Babirad; nephew, Steven Bettinger; six great-nephews and nieces, extended family, and many wonderful friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by parents, Hy and Mary; and brothers, Glenn and Dick. LEO'S CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE will be held 2pm Saturday, Nov. 25, First Lutheran Church of Avoca, NE. To continue his passion of education, Leo donated his body for science research. His request was in lieu of flowers that memorials go to Midland University, 900 N Clarkson St., Fremont, NE 68025.
