Castetter, 94, Passed Away Tuesday Night-Came to Blair in 1876-Homesteaded in South Dakota

Emanuel Castetter of Blair passed away Tuesday night after having been bedfast for six weeks. He had been failing for the past years and finally took to his bed and when the end came it came to him peacefully.

Deceased was born June 26, 1847 in East Liberty, Ohio. He came to Blair on Thanksgiving Day of 1876 and the following year he was married to Miss Rosetta Haler, the ceremony being performed in Blair.

Three children were born to them, one passing away in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Harry Vincent of Des Moines, whose death occurred only few days ago. Scott, the son with who the father resided, is the only one left of the family.

In 1904 the family moved to South Dakota where they resided on a homestead. In 1910 the family moved back to Blair and returned to Dakota in 1913 staying until 1920 when they again returned to Blair. Since then Blair has been their place of abode. The wife passed away several years ago and the son and father have lived together in their home since.

Mr. Castetter was of a kindly sociable disposition and despite his advanced age his mind was keen and he enjoyed visiting with his friends over the early day happenings.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 from the Bendorf Funeral Home and interment will be made in the Blair Cemetery. Thus closes the life of an early settler of Blair, a man who had taken part in the happenings of those early days when Blair was in the making.
