Archibald M. Bovee died at 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at his home in west Blair from the effects of a cancer on his left cheek that gradually ate his life away. Some three years ago he had an operation performed for a cancer and the wound seemed to heal thoroughly, but last spring it broke out again and the operation was repeated on Sept. 25. For the three months following he suffered much, but was courageous, patient and hopeful. When finally convinced that he could not recover his patience and fortitude did not forsake him and slowly life slipped away, coming to a peaceful end on Christmas day. Rev. Vallow conducted the funeral at the M.E. church at 9 o'clock this morning, burial taking place at New England. The G.A.R. Post attended in a body in honor of a beloved comrade. Mr. Bovee was born in Illinois July 25, 1838, and was married to Miss Evaline Gossard, Oct. 27, 1864, his now bereaved widow. To them were born six sons and five daughters, five of whom preceded him to the "great beyond." He came to this county in 1870 and has since been a continuous resident. He united with the Methodist church in 1859 and next to his home it held the first place in his affections. To it he gave 35 years of faithful service as class leader and was just in all his dealings. He was secretary of the Farmers Mutual Grange Insurance Co. in this and Burt county for several years and only gave up when unable to perform his duties.
