The death of James H. Platz at 8 o’clock Sunday evening was not unexpected, for he has been in feeble health for some time, yet it was a shock to his many friends and all hearts joined the bereaved family in their sorrow. Mr. Platz has been a sufferer from asthma for many years but recently his heart began to give him trouble and it was this organ that was the direct cause of his death. The funeral was held at the family residence on west Washington Street at 2 o’clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. M. Foreman, of the Baptist Church and Rev. A. M. Anderson, of the Danish Lutheran Church. Interment was made in the Blair Cemetery, where rest the remains of his eldest daughter, Mary, Mrs. Walter McCracken, whose death occurred in the fall of 1914 from the effects of a lamp explosion.

James Hansen Platz was born at Vamdrup, Denmark, April 2nd, 1835 and was therefore, past 84 years of age. He came to this country in 1866 and lived two years in New York and one in Chicago before coming west. He settled on a farm near Atchison, Kans., where his nearest neighbors were the Kickapoo Indians. He was married to Miss Hertha Eleanor Schollert June 29th, 1869 at Atchison and they shared the pioneer days together, miles from any other white settlers. They moved to Omaha in 1872 and to this city in 1880, which has been their home ever since. Their golden wedding anniversary was celebrated just four weeks before he was called to the other side.

Besides the aged wife, he is survived by two sons, Dr. Chas. Platz, of Torrington, Wyo. and Harry, of Clay Centre, and one daughter, Mrs. Harry Christensen, of this city. There are also nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Platz was a good husband, and father, a good citizen and neighbor. Kindly in manner he was the friend to all, both old and young. He served Washington County as treasurer from 1896 to 1900 and since that time has been engaged in the real estate and insurance business. He was a member of the I.O.O.F Lodge and this order will have charge of the burial service.
