Eliza (Tyson) Warrick

PIONEER, 86, BURIED HERE SUNDAY

Eliza Warrick Came to County in Territorial Days-Saw Town and County Develop

Eliza Ann Tyson, daughter of Watson and Eliza Tyson, was born on June 23, 1861, in Linden, Wisconsin. The last of nine children, she died April 15, 1948, at her home in Blair, at the age of 86 years 9 months and 22 days.

At the age of two years she came with her family to Nebraska by ox team and settled at York Creek west of Blair. At this time father Tyson left his family in Nebraska to go on to the Gold fields in California. He returned shortly, however, and moved his family to the homestead north of Blair. Here on this homestead Eliza Ann grew to womanhood. The old log house that was her childhood home still stands.

On August 20, 1884, she was united in marriage to Lincoln D. Warrick. To this union one child was born. Mrs. Warrick lived on the old homestead till 21 years ago when she moved to Blair. Her husband preceded her in death 23 years ago.

She was a member of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church and belonged to the Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge No. 27, Blair, Nebraska.

Coming to this county in 1863, she was here in the old territorial days. When Nebraska became a state in 1867 she was six years of age. Her early living having been spent here she knew the trials and problems of the pioneers and she had the friendly spirit of those early day through her entire life.

Her friends of a lifetime will miss her greatly and she leaves a vacancy that can never be filled.

The funeral rites were held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church with Rev. Sidney L. McCaig officiating and interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.

The pallbearers were her old friends and were A. R Beales, Carol Thornburg, Oscar Mathews, Ernie Schmidt and Herman Jacobs. Thus another pioneer has gone and the number is gradually decreasing. Only a few are left who knew the happenings of that early colorful age, and with them goes the early history of a great country.
