Alfred Rites Held Monday-Station Operator Suffered Illness For Three Years

Alfred Enger, well known Blair man who has operated service stations for more than 26 years, passed away at the Blair Hospital early Saturday morning, Oct. 15. He had suffered a lingering illness for the past three years.

Alfred Enger was the son of Frederick and Many Enger and was born at Herman, Nebraska December 2, 1903. He was 51 years of age at the time of his death.

He was graduated from Herman High School in1921 and attended Boyles Business College in Omaha in 1921 and 1922.

On February 20, 1929 he was married to Miss Mildred Henrichsen and they made Blair their home where Mr. Enger entered the oil business. The couple had one daughter, Janet, now Mrs. Neil Lang.

Careful workmanship and good business principles built many friends for the deceased who became affectionately known as “Al” to all who traded with him. He developed a following which remained loyal to him to the time of his death. For the past four years he has operated the Standard Station at Third and South Streets.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred, daughter Janet and by a niece who was reared in the Enger home, Mrs. Norma Clausen, of Ft. Sheridan, Illinois. Others surviving are his mother, Mrs. Mary Enger of Blair; three sisters, Mrs. Dwight Patrick of Oakland, Nebr., Mrs. A. I. Magill, of Herman and Mrs. Don Rader, of Concord, California. Two brothers, Howard Enger, of Omaha and Victor Enger, of Herman and five children of his foster daughter who are Michael, Wendy, Mark, Christy and Leslie Clausen.

Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran Church Monday afternoon with the Rev. H. C. Jorgensen conducting the service. Burial in charge of the Bendorf Funeral Home was made in the Blair Cemetery.
