A.R. Brock 85, Died Tuesday-Former Blair Banker Lived Here 42 years

Andrew R. Brock, retired Blair banker, passed away at his home on West Lincoln Street at 11 P.M. Tuesday evening. Mr. Brock was 85 years of age. He had been in failing health for a number of months, a victim of the infirmities accompanying old age.

Mr. Brock was born in Ans, Denmark, November 18, 1868 and attended school and grew to manhood in his native land.

At the age of 20 he decided to come to America and in 1888 he arrived in Nebraska, settling at St. Paul, Nebraska.

He moved to Blair in 1911 when he purchase the Martin Hardware, a business which occupied the building where the B & C Shop is now located. The hardware was sold to Julius Petersen, of Blair, 1915 and in the fall of that year, Mr. Brock entered the banking business at Rising City, Nebraska.

He returned to Blair in 1919 as President of the Citizen’s State Bank and continued to operated the bank until 1933. In 1934 he was in charge if the Kennard Co-operative Credit Association, at Kennard, remaining with that institution until 1946. Since then he has lived in retirement at 406 West Lincoln Street.

During his many years in the banking business, Mr. Brock took an active part in the affairs of the community. He accumulated many close friends in both his business and social life and these mourn his passing deeply.

On September 29, 1896 he was married to Carrie Christensen at York, Nebraska and to this union two sons were born. The eldest, Ernest Brock, is in business at Auburn, Nebraska. The younger son, Myron Brock, resided in Washington, D. C.

Mrs. Brock survives her husband’s passing as does the two sons. Also, a sister, Mrs. Lars Larsen, of St. Paul, Nebraska. There are also two half-sisters, Mrs. Leroy Bell, of Auburn, Washington and Mrs. Mabel Miller, of Lincoln, Nebraska. A half-brother, C. H. Brock resides at Chadron, Nebraska. Julius Petersen, of Blair and a brother-in-law of Mr. Brock is a survivor and has been assisting Mrs. Brock in his care.

Funeral services will be held May 31st at 2 P.M. at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. H. C. Jorgensen officiating. Burial will be made in the Blair, Cemetery with Bendorf Funeral Home in charge.
