E. B. Redfield Rites Held Tuesday-Blair Business Man For Fifty Years, Ill Six Weeks

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for E. B. (Bert) Redfield, well know Blair man who has been in business here for more than 50 years. Mr. Redfield succumbed to complication arising out of a broke hip which he suffered in a fall about six week ago. He was 85 years old. He had passed away last Sunday, August 2, at an Omaha hospital.

Mr. Redfield was born October 4, 1867 at Essex, Connecticut and moved to Harlan, Iowa in a covered wagon with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford C. Redfield when but a small lad. He grew to manhood there and later moved to Blair.

On August 29, 1894 he was united in marriage to Tessora May Tyson and for a time Mr. and Mrs. Redfield farmed north of Blair. Later they moved to town where Mr. Redfield entered business.

For a time he operated a bakery in a frame building known as the “YMCA” building. It was located on Lincoln Street on one of the lots now occupied by the Telephone Building. Later the bakery was moved to a location on Main Street.

Mr. and Mrs. Redfield engaged in the grocery business for a time and after several changes of location he purchased the brick building now occupied by Duffey’s Market. There he operated a “Red and White” store for an number of years.

In later years he disposed of the grocery business and opened an insurance office.

Mr. Redfield is survived by his widow and by a son, Clifford of Omaha. Two sons Elbert and Robert preceded him in death. There is one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Tuesday afternoon at the Campbell Mortuary with the Rev. R. E. Ditlevsen of the First Baptist Church conducting the services. Burial was made in the Blair Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ray Hansen, Prentice Smith, James Conety, R. G. Allen, L. L. Snyder and Ed Mundorf.
