Phyllis R. Fitch, 83

Phyllis R. Fitch, 83, died in her sleep, at her home in Herman, on Sunday, June 7, 2009.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am. Monday, June 15, at the First United Methodist Church in Blair.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Phyllis Reatha Iverson was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Blair to Theodore and Mabel Iverson. She graduated from Blair High School in 1942 at the age of 16, and began teaching school when she was 17. She taught elementary and special education in Herman and Tekamah for 41 years. During that time, she missed only one-half day of school due to illness. She received her bachelor’s degree from Dana College and her master’s degree from Omaha University.

On June 9, 1946, she married Joe Fitch and they made their home in Herman.

Mrs. Fitch was a member of the Herman Order of the Eastern Star, and the Blair Bridge Club, as well as the First United Methodist Church in Blair.

She is survived by her husband, Joe; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Patti; two grandsons and their spouses; sisters and brother-in-law, Lila and Raymond Christensen and Carol Podjenski; brother, Allen Iverson.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Osmera.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, or the Herman Order of the Eastern Star.

Services 10:30 am Monday June 15, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Visitation begins 1 pm Sunday with family receiving friends from 608pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Methodist Church of Herman Easter Star.
