FORMER BLAIR WOMAN DIES IN OMAHA

Miss Lucy A. Bowen, an old and highly respected citizen of this community for many years, passed away at the Colonial hotel in Omaha on Tuesday morning, Feb. 18, 1930 after two weeks illness.

Miss Bowen was the daughter of Judge John S. Bowen, a member of Nebraska's first territorial legislature. When the family resided in this city their property was on east Colfax street.

The deceased was born at West Chester, Penn., eighty-three years ago and came to Blair with her parents in 1857. After living here many years, she removed to Colo. Springs and Calif., and also spent some time in the east.

Surviving are her sister, Mrs. John A. Smiley of Omaha and several nieces and nephews. Miss Abba Bowen, principal of Brownell Hall, is her niece.

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at the Baptist church in this city and interment made in the local cemetery.

Word was received her Wednesday morning of the death of Miss Lucy Bowen at her home in Omaha the preceding day. Interment was made at the Blair cemetery Thursday afternoon. Miss Bowen with her father, John S. Bowen, made their home on the farm southwest of Kennard now locally known as the Bowen place. A number of the older folks here remember her as a kindly friend and neighbor.

BLAIR LIBRARY AND BAPTIST CHURCH TO RECEIVE SUMS

World-Herald: Cash bequests totaling 27 thousand dollars are contained in the will of Miss Lucy Bowen, former resident of Blair, who died a week ago in Omaha. The will is on file in the Douglas county court.

Cash gifts are: Blair Cemetery Association, $500; Mrs. Sarah Hill..ouse Bowen Young, $5,000; Elizabeth A. Bowen, $2,000; Abba Willard Bowen, Brownell Hall, $2,000; Lila Bowen, $2,000; Annette L. Smiley, $2,500 and watch and chain; Colorado Women’s college (Baptist) of Denver, $1,000; American Baptist Home Mission Society, $1,000; ministers’ and missionaries; benefit board of the Northern Baptist convention, $1,000; Blair public library, $1,000.

The trust bequests: First Baptist church of Blair, $7,000; life income from $7,000 to Louisa W. …isler, and at her death $5,000 to First Baptist church of Colorado Springs, and $2,000 to the fellowship fund of the same church; life income from $5,000 to Anna M. J. ..miley, and at her death $5,000 to Augustus D. Smiley; life income from $5,000 to Jessie M. Bowen, and at her death $5,000 to Earl M. Bowen; life income from $1,500 to Mrs. Adele F. Anthes, and at her death $1,500 to Sunny Rest Sanatorium, Colorado Springs; life income from $1,500 to Emma F. Wainwright, and at her death $1,500 to Colorado Women’s College (Baptist) of Denver.
