C. J. Beekman Died Monday On Coast-Former Blair Merchant Victim of Heart Attack

Charles J. Beekman, 80, a long time Blair merchant, died at Los Angles, California last Monday February 4th. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He had been in good health prior to his death.

Mr. Beekman is well known here, having operated a Blair store for many years. For a long time, it was a combination grocery and general merchandise store. Later, it became just a work clothing and dry goods store. The store was located at what is now the west section of the Blue Goose Store, the building having been torn down to make way for the improvement scarcely more than a year ago.

Mr. Beekman was known as a good merchant, always shrewd and careful in his dealing but meticulously honest.

The deceased was born May 8, 1877 at Blair and lived in Washington County his entire life until his retirement 9 years ago when he and Mrs. Beekman moved to Los Angeles to make their home. Their family had preceded them to that area.

Mr. Beekman and Ida Wolff were united in marriage in 1903. Most of their married life was spent living at the corner of Fifth and Grant in the house now owned by H. Lyle Guyer.

Surviving Mr. Beekman are his wife, Ida and three daughters and a son. The daughters are Emma, who teaches in the Los Angeles Public Schools, Alice, Mrs. John McGill, of Tulare, California; Catherine, Mrs. Frank Cristin, of Seattle, Washington. Carl Beekman, a son, resides at Los Angeles. Mrs. George Rohwer, Sr. of Ft. Calhoun, is a sister. There are five grandchildren.
