Wm. W. Young died at 1:30 yesterday morning, July 20th, 1909, at the N.A. Bovee place on east Washington street, after an illness of over two years. The funeral will be held at the Methodist church at 3 o’clock today and interment made in the Blair cemetery. Deceased was born in Hopkins county, Ky., June 28, 1953, and was one of the early settlers in this county, coming here with his father’s family in ’66, living out near Orum for many years. He was married to Miss Ella Matteson October 13, 1878 and to this union were born eleven children, six sons and five daughters, all of whom are living. The family moved to Minnesota from here and later to Iowa, coming here last April for a visit with his sister, Mrs. M. A. Kingdon. He was taken worse and was unable to leave, so his life ended here where most of it was spent. All but three of his children were present when the angel of death came to bear the spirit of a kind and loving husband and father “to a world that is fairer than this.” The children are: Amy A. Johnson, of Palisades, Colo., Ray N. and Bessie B.of Chalk Butte, S.D., Bertha M. Marquardt of Voltaire, N.D., M.H . and Roy M. of Wrightsonville, S.D., Mabelle F. Marquardt, of Bergen, N.D., Clarence W, Fern, Kenneth and Wilbur. A brother, S.W., of Omaha, also survives him. The sympathy of many friends is extended the bereaved family in their hour of sorrow.

#3-28 July, 1909 - The Pilot - William W. Young

Death claimed another of Washington county’s earliest settlers when Mr. Wm. Young was called to the Great Beyond. No text could have been more appropriate than the one chosen for the funeral services. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished by course, I have kept the faith." Mr. Young and family lived near the Advent church until about eight years ago when they moved to Minnesota and later to Iowa. This spring they moved back to Blair. Of the eleven children all were present at the time of his death but Mrs. Amy Johnson of Colorado and Mrs. Bertha Marquardt of North Dakota. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community in their great sorrow.
