Memorial services were held Saturday, May 12, 1990, at John Knox Presbyterian Church Chapel in Seattle, Washington, for Shirley M. Bowman, 67, who died suddenly May 5, 1990.

Shirley M. Bowman was born August 30, 1922, in Omaha to Howard and Mary Whitzke Purcell.

She was married to Austin Bowman for 47 years.

Prior to teaching kindergarten in the Highland area of Seattle from 1955-1966, she taught school in rural Washington County, Nebraska. From 1966-85, she operated Storybook House pre-school.

Following her retirement, she cared for her youngest granddaughter while pursuing her hobby of creating porcelain dolls.

Survivors include her husband, Austin; daughters, Leslie Rayno of Federal Way, Washington, and Lori Hogt of Seattle; three grandchildren; her mother, Mary Purcell of Arlington; and two sisters, Catherine Cook of Seattle and Rosemary Holling of Arlington.
