Fitzgerald, Michael E. age 61 yrs, of Omaha. Preceded in death by father, John and brother, Daniel Fitzgerald. Survived by mother, Anna Fitzgerald; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Margy Fitzgerald, Terry and Marty Fitzgerald, Tom and Linda Fitzgerald; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Francis Dillon, Sr. Sheila Fitzgerald O.P., Patricia Miller, Margaret “Peg” and Jim Townley; 21 nieces and nephews; 24 great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation 2-5pm Mon at Funeral Home. Vigil Service Mon 7pm St. John the Baptist Catholic Church followed by Knights of Columbus Rosary. Interment Ft. Calhoun Cemetery. Memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Ft. Calhoun Rescue Squad.

Michael E. Fitzgerald, 61

Michael E. Fitzgerald, 61, of Fort Calhoun, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at his home.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 25, a St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Michael Fitzgerald was born Dec. 6, 1937, to John J. and Anna C. Fitzgerald of Washington County. He attended Sacred Heart High School in Omaha. After graduation, he began farming, and also worked at Union Pacific Railroad for 12 years. He then joined the Local I.B.E.W. 22, and became a Journeyman Electrician. He retired from the trade in 1978 due to a disability.

He was president of Garryowen School District #9, a member of I.B.E.W. Local 22 and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1866. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10305 and of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church parish.

He was active in the church parish as a religious education instructor, an adult bible study participant and a catchiest for R.C.I.A.

His hobbies included scripture studies, family genealogy, working on tractors and gardening. He was recently noted as the “chicken man” for his interest in raising various breeds of chickens and sharing the eggs and chickens.

He is survived by his mother, Anna Cecelia; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John J. and Margaret of Fort Calhoun; Terence P. and Martha of rural Omaha; and Thomas J. and Linda of rural Omaha; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Francis Dillon of Gretna; Patricia Miller of rural Omaha; Margaret (Peg) and James Townley of rural Omaha; and Shelia Fitzgerald, O.P. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 21 nieces and nephews; and 24 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John J. Fitzgerald; and brother, Daniel, who died in 1936.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
