Eleanor Shields

Logan—Funeral for Eleanor Shields, 65, of Logan will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan.

She was born at Sioux Falls, S.D. She taught Sunday School at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan and worked on other church activities.

Survivors include three sons, Michael of Ceresco, Neb., Patrick and Tom, both of Logan; two daughters, Elizabeth Fritz of Omaha and Barbara Rentro of Fenton, Mo.; two brothers, Cornelius Scheffer of North Olmstead, Ohio, and Gerald Sheffer of Kingman, Ariz.; one sister, Audree Wolf, of Santa Ana, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren.

Visitation will be tonight at 7 at Schumacher Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Logan.

Note: Her marriage license to Eugene Allen Shields lists her maiden name as Van Hilten. Her Social Security Claims index in the National Archives lists her name as first Eleanor Vanhilten and later as Eleanor Shields. It is unclear how her brothers were Sheffers, unless her mother re-married.
