Death Comes to Mrs. James

Dies New Year’s Day at Blair Hospital: Was 71 Years Old

Mrs. Maud L. James, 71, widow of the late Gardner O. James and longtime Washington County resident, died New Year’s Day at Blair Hospital. She had been in failing health several weeks.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Bendorf Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Raymond E. Ditlevsen of Blair’s Baptist Church will conduct services.

Pallbearers will be John Taylor, William Hovendick, Lauren Pullen, Art Pullen, Jim Meier and Chester Spiker.

The daughter of Walter and Adeline McMullen, she married Gardner James Dec. 20, 1889. Except for one year spent in Colorado, the Jameses made their home in Washington County all their married lives. Mr. James died Febr. 7, 1947.

Surviving Mrs. James are one daughter, Mrs. Arthur S. Jensen (Ellece) of north of Blair; three sisters, Mrs. Eva Washburn of Norfolk, Mrs. Inez Jackman of Missoula, Mont., and Mrs. Ada Brosman of Pinedale, Wyo.; one brother, Ralph McMullen of Van Nuys, Calif. A sister, Mrs. Ruth Patterson, died in 1935. Four grandchildren also survive.
