Zimmerman, Francis C. “Charlie”, Age 65 of Pierce, NE. Died Thursday, July 14, 2016 at his home. Charlie was born June 1, 1951, to Francis and Irene (Gronau) Zimmerman at Norfolk Lutheran Hospital. He grew up in Battle Creek, NE and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1969. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Archeology from Dana College in Blair, NE. While in college, Charlie spent a summer in Germany as an exchange student. He also worked on an archaeological dig in North Dakota during this time. After college, Charlie moved to the Pierce area and began working at the Zimmerman Ranch.

On December 29, 1982, Charlie married Diane Volk (Wills) in Battle Creek. They traveled extensively, were avid readers and extremely talented at making stained glass. New Orleans was a favorite destination of theirs.

Charlie is survived by his mother Irene of Norfolk; his sons, Jay and Stefani Hazelwood of Elkhorn, and Tyler and Shawn Volk of Omaha; 3 sisters, Sharon and Bob Swanson of La Porte, IN, Vicki Ashker of Battle Creek, Jane and Loren Brandstetter of Battle Creek; brother Bruce and Connie Zimmerman of Pierce; 3 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, F.H. Zimmerman and his wife Diane on August 7, 2015.

Memorial Services will be 10:30am Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Home for Funerals, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Charlie and Diane Zimmerman Scholarship Fund at Pierce.
