Services To Be Friday: Ex-Herman Man Died On 71st Birthday

Tom Cushman, 71, of 501 E. Colfax St., native and former resident of Herman, died at Blair Hospital Monday on his 71st birthday. Ill about two years, he had been admitted to the hospital only a few hours before his death.

Funeral services, with arrangements in charge of Fick’s Funeral Home, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Methodist church. The Rev. A.W. Clarke of Arlington will officiate, and interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Smandel Cushman, pioneers, Mr. Cushman was born Mar. 17, 1876 on the old Cushman farm in the Spiker vicinity. He lived in the Herman region all his life until moving to Blair about 10 or 12 years ago. He farmed many years, and bought cattle throughout the county.

Mr. Cushman and Maime Stroh of Hooper were married Jan. 28, 1916. They were the parents of ten children, one of whom died in infancy.

Surviving him are his wife, Maime; three daughters, Mrs. Cora Maw of Corona, Calif., Mrs. Lenora Farmer of Scio, Ore., and Leatha, at home; and six sons, Smandel and Robert, both of San Diego, Calif., Oris of Omaha, Edward, Bill and Rex, all at home. There is one sister, Mrs. Harry Neff, of Herman.

THOMAS R CUSHMAN DIED MONDAY

Thomas R. Cushman was born on a farm about two miles north of Spiker on March 17, 1876, and died at the Blair hospital on Monday, March 17, 1947, being thus exactly 71 years of age at his death.

He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Cushman, pioneers of Grant township. Here he grew to manhood and on January 28, 1916 he was married to Miss Mamie Stroh. To them ten children were born, nine of whom are living, six boys and three girls. These, with the wife and one sister, Mrs. Harry Neff of Spiker, survive him.

Funeral services under the auspices of the Fick Funeral home will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Methodist church, and interment will be made in the Rose Hill cemetery.

Note: on her tombstone, his wife’s nickname was Mamie; her full name was Margaret Marie (Stroh) Cushman
