Gary B. Janning was born on March 3, 1949, in Manning, Iowa.

He graduated from Carroll Kuemper Catholic High School in 1967, entered the Air Force and served in Vietnam.

Gary met Joyce Henninger while they were working at Richman-Gordman in Omaha, they married on April 8, 1972, and moved to Carroll, Iowa, where he worked at his parents’ restaurant, The Pin Oaks. In 1975, Gary began his 36-year career at Nebraska Furniture Mart where he retired as a furniture merchandiser in 2011.

Gary was a father to Mark and Kristan, a beloved uncle, and he adored his four granddaughters. He was a hunter, a hobbyist and loved spending time with his family, friends, and dogs, especially while out camping.

Gary passed away while on a fishing trip doing what he loved on May 17, 2018.

He was preceded in death by parents, Urban and Virginia Janning. He is survived by wife, Joyce Janning of Blair; children, Mark Janning (Shelli) of Blair, Kristan Holthus (Jeremy) of Papillion; grandchildren: Jerzie and Brooke Janning, Kaycee and Kamryn Holthus; brothers, Dennis Janning (Diane) and James Janning.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2018, at Campbell Aman Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, 2005 Davis Drive, Blair. Graveside service is 1 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Omaha National Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be directed to the family.
