G.H. WARDELL, 75, PASSES AWAY AT HOME HERE, SUNDAY EVENING

G.H. Wardell passed away at his home here in Creighton, Sunday evening at 8:45, with death attributed to heart disease. He had been in ill health for over a year. He suffered a series of severe heart attacks the past summer, but in recent weeks had shown improvement.

With Mrs. Wardell, he moved to Creighton only a few weeks ago from the ranch southwest of here.

An extensive stock raiser until his health failed and a former member of the Knox county board of supervisors, Mr. Wardell was well known, not only in this vicinity, but also over the county.

Funeral services for him were held at the Methodist church here Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Roy Richmond of Aurora, former pastor of the Millerboro church, southwest of Creighton officiating.

The many friends and neighbors, who gathered for the rites and the floral tributes surrounding the casket, attested to the esteem in which he was held by those, who knew him.

Services were held again, Wednesday morning at 10:30 at Kennard with Rev. David Simpson of Arlington officiating.Interment was made in the Kennard cemetery.

Pallbearers here were Eddie Faith, Eddie Raff, Tom Beckley, Charles Shankweiler, Fred Morsett and Dr. W.G. Fletcher, the latter of Orchard. At Kennard, Dr. Fletcher's place was taken by Ray Stokes.

George Harry Wardell, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Wardell, was born at Bosworth, England, March 25, 1865 and died at his home in Creighton, Nebraska, November 3, 1940 at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 8 days.

At the age of two years, he, with his parents, came to America and located on a farm near Utica, N.Y., where they resided for eight years, after which time they emigrated westward and settled on a farm north of Elkhorn, Nebr., where he grew to manhood.

On February 5, 1896 he was united in marriage to Nellie J. Blaco at Kennard, Nebr. To this union four children were born, two daughters and two sons. The eldest, a daughter, died in infancy.

Those surviving are: Gladys Fern Kragh of Glenn Haven, Wis.; Merle of Kennard and Harry of Grand Island.

In the year 1901, Mr. Wardell with his wife and daughter came to this vicinity and located on a ranch west of Creighton, where, with the exception of three years on a farm west of Plainview, he lived continuously until about a month ago, when he and his wife moved to Creighton.

For a number of years, he was engaged extensively in the livestock industry, until failing health limited his activities.

Early in life, he was baptized into the Church of England and later united with the Methodist church at Kennard, Nebr. He was also a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge.

The deceased was a man of courage and fortitude, a kind husband and father and a loyal friend.

Besides his immediate family, he leaves to mourn his passing, five grandchildren, two brothers, Joseph of Omaha, James of Washington, Nebr. and a host of friends and neighbors.
