Services were Friday, Jan. 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont for Selma Brandert, 81 of Fremont, who died Jan. 14, 1997 at Arbor Manor in Fremont. Rev. David Loeschen officiated. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Selma Brandert was born at Arlington Nov. 7, 1915 to August and Amanda Scheer Echtenkamp. She grew up on a farm north of Arlington and attended St. Paul's Lutheran School.

After her marriage to Harold Brandert on March 3, 1935 at Arlington, she lived east of Winslow, Nebr., where she and her husband farmed until moving to Fremont in 1988.

She and her husband were originators and organizers of the Lutheran Orphans Festival for the former Lutheran Orphanage of Fremont. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a life member of the Lutheran Laymen's League and the Ladies Aid, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran; was a member of Trinity Lutheran Women and a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Arlington and of Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Winslow.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Raymond Echtenkamp.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Shirley Brandert of Fremont; a daughter, Karen Brazda of Fremont, a former son-in-law, Doug Brazda of West Point, Nebr.; a sister, Rozella (Mrs. Leonard) Laaker of Blair; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Moser Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
