Ellen Margaret (Nicholson) Kohlmeier was born in Omaha on Sept. 28, 1929 to George Delbert “Del” and Velma Louise (Hicks) Nicholson. She passed away on June 6, 2018.

Ellen attended school in Corwith, Iowa, and Blair. She graduated from Blair High School in 1946. She attended Dana College in Blair and then graduated from Burrough’s Business School in Omaha. She married Allen A. Kohlmeier, Jr. of Fort Calhoun on Sept. 2, 1947. The family made their home in Blair and later moved to Omaha, where the family remains.

Ellen was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Huguenot Society, Colonial Dames XVII Century and the Ruddell & Martin Stations Historical Association. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blair and in Omaha. Her passions were family, gardening, books and spending time with her husband. She also fostered many children through the Nebraska Children's Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Allen A. Kohlmeier, Jr.; sister, Eileen A. Patton; and her nieces, Amy Kelleen and Amanda Nicholson.

Ellen is survived by her son, Robert A. (Roxanne) Kohlmeier of Omaha; her daughters, Peggy A. Hiykel of Blair, Kathleen (Larry) Reynolds and Joleen (Terry) Williams both of Omaha; brother, J. Morton (Barbara) Nicholson of Cincinnati, Ohio; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A service will be held later as Ellen donated her body to science. She will be buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha. All memorials should be directed to Washington County Historical Association, PO Box 25, Fort Calhoun, NE 68023.
