Former Blairite Dies Recently In California

Mrs. Walter G. Huber of Blair recently received word of the death of her cousin, Madeline O. (Nielsen) Fleming of Laguna Hills, California. She died there on July 21, 1979, after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at Laguna Hills, California, on July 29.

Madeline was the daughter of Jens and Mary Nielsen, who preceded her in death. Mr. Nielsen operated the former North Side Store in Blair for many years.

Madeline graduated from Blair High School in 1930 and was active in debating while attending there. She attended Dana College for three years and received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska in 1934. Following her graduation, she taught school at Benedict, Nebraska, and at the former McCarthy School in Washington County, Nebraska.

After moving to California, she was employed by the Los Angeles County Welfare Department, retiring three years ago.

She is survived by her husband, R. Stewart Fleming; one daughter Mary Edit Morton of Los Angeles, California; and one son, Steven Fleming of London, England. One brother, Gwyer Nielsen of Apple Valley, California, also survives her.
