Services for Alfred Souza Brazil, 85 of San Luis Obispo, California who died August 5, 1996 in a San Luis Obispo hospital were Friday, August 9 at the Old Mission Catholic Church in San Luis Obispo. Rev. Larry Betrozoff officiated. Burial was at Lady Family Sutcliffe Cemetery.

Alfred Souza Brazil was born to Joseph and Mary Diaz Brazil in San Luis Obispo, where he was raised and educated. He attended court school and Fremont School.

He was a carpenter all his life and was a member of the carpenters union. He was a 50-year member of the SLO Grange and Pamona Grange and state and national granges. He was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge, the Odd Fellows and St. Edna Lodge.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine Perez-Ogburn.

He is survived by sons, Alfred Brazil, John Brazil and Jeff Brazil, all of Modesto, California; daughters, Anna Mae Gilmore of Half Moon Bay; Velma Tibartl of San Luis Obispo and Barbara Welch of Houston, Texas; a brother, Joseph Brazil of Lathrop, California; sisters, Lena Covit of San Jose, California and Ida Avila of San Luis Obispo; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were by Rels Chapel in San Luis Opispo.
