Gene Hans Nielsen, age 77 of Blair, passed away July 2, 2018, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. Private graveside services will be held in the Blair Cemetery. A luncheon will be held from family and friends July 9, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at the Parkview Manor Clubhouse located at 758 S. 16th St. in Blair.

Gene was born on February 23, 1941, on a farm outside the town of Kimbalton, Iowa, to Folmer and Leona Nielsen. The family moved to Atlantic, Iowa, where Gene was raised. He met the love of his life Nancy Cowherd and the two were married on November 25, 1966.

Gene is survived by his children: Lisa Hansen of Blair, Jeff Nielsen of Elkhorn, Todd (Denise) Nielsen of Blair; grandchildren: Gena Hansen of Blair, Derek Hanson of Blair, Ashley Nielsen of Omaha, Nicholas (Madelyn) Nielsen of Omaha, Tyler (May) Veeder of San Diego, Calif., Heather Veeder of Blair; soon to be born great-granddaughter Raelyn Nielsen; stepson, Paul Hansen of Atlantic, Iowa; sister Darlene (Charles) Beck of Hiawatha, IA along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, parents Folmer and Leona, infant son Douglas, brother Ronald (Beverly) Nielsen, great granddaughter Lilly Nielsen, father and mother-in-law William A. and Willa Jo Cowherd, brother and sister-in-law William and Marie Cowherd and step son John Hansen.
