Irma M. Bray, 81, of Lyons, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at the Nebraska Medical Center/University Hospital in Omaha after a short battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A prayer service is slated for 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held Wednesday, one hour prior to services, at the church.

Irma Marian Bray was born July 28, 1924, in rural Blair to Albert and Anna (Andersen) Madsen. She grew up on a farm west of Blair. She attended Glendale School until she was 12 years old. Her family then moved west of Herman, where she attended Brodersen and New England Schools. During her last two years of high school, she attended Blair High School, where she graduated in 1941. She pursued a teaching career and attended Dana College. She taught for five years at two rural Washington County Schools.

On June 4, 1947, she married George R. Bray in Arlington.

Mrs. Bray was a homemaker. She is remembered as a quiet person who adored flowers and planting. She was proud of her Danish heritage and was a Husker sports enthusiast.

She is survived by her husband, George, of Lyons; daughter, Cheryl Ziemann of Lyons; sons, Ronald Bray of San Carlos, Calif., Roger Bray of Oakland, John Bray of Lyons; sisters, Esther Madsen and Lucille Wulf, both of Blair; brothers: Albert Madsen, Jr. of Blair and Darrell Madsen, Sr. of Fremont; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Rodney, Clark and Gary.

Memorials are suggested to the Lyons Library, Lyons Rescue Squad and Burt-Washington County Home Health Care.
