Melvin W. Breitkreutz, 79, of West Point, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 1 at the Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. Burial with military honors by West Point V.F.W. Post # 4912 was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in West Point.

Melvin Wesley Breitkreutz was born Jan. 20, 1928 at Pender, to John and Anna (Gilster) Breitkreutz. He graduated from Wisner High School in 1945.

He served in the United States Army during WWII from 1946-1947. After being honorably discharged, he returned to West Point.

On May 26, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marion "Nellie" Nelson in Vermillion, S.D.

Mr. Breitkreutz was an auto mechanic, and he worked for Hagedorn Motors and later from Lubkers until retirement. He was a member of the West Point V.F.W Post # 4912 and a former member of the West Point Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, and especially his family.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Karen Breitkreutz of West Point, Rick and Rebecca Breitkreutz of Scribner, Scott and Cindy Breitkreutz of Blair, and daughter and son-in-law, Micky and Rollie Kreikemeir of West Point; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Alice Breitkreutz, Francis and Anna Mae Breitkreutz, Ronald and Mary Jane Breitkreutz; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Mike Kuzelka, all of Wisner; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie, in 1978.
