Carl August Johannes Brennecke was born on June 26, 1888, at Suderstapel by Keil Schlesweig, Germany to Heinrich Anton Alvin Brennecke and his wife, Wibke Margaret nee Frahm.

During his youth he was baptized into the membership of the Christian Church in Germany and was later confirmed into the Lutheran Faith in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Suderstapel, Germany.

As a young man he was employed in different creameries, and was later taken in the German Army at Thorn, West Prussia. He served in the army from 1910-1912. After his time he left Germany and came to the United States on July 8th, 1914 and arrived in New York on July 15, 1914. He then continued on his journey westward and came to Millard, Nebraska on July 21, 1914, and worked as a farm hand for his living.

Carl Brennecke was united in marriage with Amelia Bertha Munster on December 24, 1919 at the Lutheran Parsonage at Millard, Nebraska. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Anna May and Shirley.
