John Quincy Root
Died on 10/2/1899

J. Q. Root

Published in the Courier October 5,1899

The following telegram dated October 2, is taken from the Chicago Record: “J. Q. Root, one of the oldest residents of this city, died this morning of apoplexy. Mr. Root came here in 1855 from Connecticut and went into the banking business with his brother. Later he established a jewelry house, remaining at the head of the firm for twenty years.”

For about forty years Mr. Root traveled over the Northwestern road through Iowa with silverware, and for a number of years came to Blair. Many here will remember him as a genial Christian gentleman. He had a sincere, kind word for everyone. One occasion when a little boy, poorly clad, asked him for help. He took him into a store and bought him a suit of clothes. He seemed to be a personal friend to all who met him.

Find A Grave # 123778881 has his name as John Quincy.
