J. OSCAR THONE PASSES

Joseph Oscar Thone was born on September 21, 1866 on his father’s homestead scarcely a mile away from where his entire life was spent. About fifty years ago his father moved to the farm on which the deceased lived until his passing away on April 29, 1933 at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 8 days.

He was married to Kristine Hansen at the Lorentz Hansen home on September 25, 1888. To this union three children were born. The eldest, a daughter, died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Kristine, and two sons, Clarence and Elmer of Herman; three grandchildren and a brother, Nick Thone of blair, who did everything possible to assist the family and his brother during his last illness.

In the passing of Oscar Thone, the county loses another one of those hardy pioneer sons now only a dwindling handful. They have met and conquered the problems of those hardy pioneer days, but time takes its toll and one by one their ranks become thinned and ere long they will be but a part of the history of those early days.

It has been the great privilege of the writer to have personally known the deceased over a long term of years, and it has been an honor to be able to call him a friend. He was a man of sterling worth. Always honorable and upright in his dealings with his fellow men, he leaves a host of friends who join with the family in grieving over his death.

The funeral services were held at the home on Monday afternoon where a vast assemblage of neighbors and friends gathered in homage to his memory, and interment was made in the Thone cemetery.
