Joyce I. Petersen, 82 years, of Fremont, NE died Monday, May 28, 2018 at Nye Pointe Health & Rehab Center in Fremont.

Joyce was born December 9, 1935 in Elkhorn, NE to Russell and Alice (Mcardle) Otte. She was a 1953 graduate of Elkhorn High School.

Joyce married Marvin Petersen on May 15, 1953 in Elkhorn. He died May 2, 2014. Joyce lived in Elkhorn for 5 years and then lived on a farm West of Bennington, NE for 25 years. She moved to rural Fremont in 1983.

She was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Bennington. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics and belonged to an Extension Club.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Kathy Petersen of Fremont; half-sisters, Kathy(Steven)Sarada of Centennial, CO and Patricia Whiteaker of Washington, D.C.; sister-in-law, Dee Otte of Omaha; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Jerry Otte; and sister, Virginia Jensen.

A graveside service will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Prairie View Cemetery, south of Kennard, NE. The Rev. Scott Jensen will officiate.
