Jennie Maud (Allen) Burch Published in the Tribune March 28, 1918

Mrs. Jennie Allen Burch, who died in Seattle Washington, March 11, 1918, was probably born just south of our school block. Her father A. P. Allen was the very first Ft. Calhoun merchant, where the railroad now is, and built part of the house now occupied by Ralph Rowley. He once told us that when he was building: the governor of this Nebraska territory, and a man who was afterwards governor, came to him and said they could find no place to sleep and he told them the best he could do was to give them a pile of carpenter shaving in the garret and he heard them kicking around in the shaving over his head like two boys.
