Services for Delbert E. “Earl” Hardy will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 1987, at First United Methodist Church in Blair with Dr. Howard Bailey officiating.

Burial will follow in the Blair Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joel Taylor; Mitch Olson; Don Livermore; Don Grace; Jay Nielsen; Gayle Petersen; Bob Black, and Randy Hardy. Hardy, 94, died July 4, 1987 at Thomas Fitzgerald Veteran’s Home in Omaha, where he had resided for the past 2½ years.

He was born January 30, 1893, in Elmwood to Albert and Ardella Hardy. Hardy later moved to Chambers, and was a rancher and farmer until 1917, when he enlisted in the US Army and served 2½ years in France during World War I.

After the war, he returned to the ranch in Chambers.

On June 4, 1926, he was united in marriage to Florence Howe at Ord.

Seven children were born to this union. One daughter, Erleen, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Florence Hardy of Blair; children Marshall Hardy of Fremont; Charlotte (Mrs. Dean) Petersen of Herman; Bob Hardy of Blair; Betty (Mrs. Glen) French of Phoenix, Arizona; Patricia Nielsen of Blair, and William Hardy of Fort Calhoun, 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Hardy came to the Blair area in 1928, where he was a representative for the Maytag company, and later served on the Blair, Herman and Washington County law enforcement agencies.

He also then farmed in the Spiker area until 1954, when he returned to Blair as the night jailer, retiring at the age of 80.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for 50 years and a lifelong member of the American Legion.
