The funeral of Mrs. Thomas Martin was held at the Jas. E. Maher home at 4 o’clock last Friday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Underwood officiating. Mrs. Martin has made her home with her sister, Mrs. Maher, for a number of years, but was visiting her daughter, Mrs. J. T. Pace, at Papillion, Neb., where she was taken ill and died. Mary Amanda Fox was born at La Porte, Ind., Feb. 16th 1840, and so was past 81 years of age. She was married to Thomas Martin at Galena, Ill., in 1856 and two daughters were born, one dying at 4 years of age. The greater part of her married life was spent at Belmont, Wis. After the death of her husband in 1883 she came to Blair and this has been her home since that time. She was one of a family of eight children, George M. Fox, of Fr. Morgan, Colo., and Mrs. Jas. E. Maher, an adopted daughter, are the only ones surviving.

MRS. AMANDA MARTIN PASSES AWAY AT PAPILLION, NEBR.

Mrs. Amanda Martin, who had been at Papillion, Nebr. on a visit to her daughter, Mrs. Nettie Pace, died at that place on Thursday, June 23.

Mary Amanda Fox was born at LaPorte, Ind. Feb 16, 1840, and was married to Thomas Martin at Galena, Ill. in 1856. To this union was born two daughters, one dying at the age of four years. The other is Mrs. Pace who now resides at Papillion.

The greater part of Mrs. Martin’s married life was spent at Belmont, Wis., and after the death of her husband in 1883, she came to Nebraska and has lived in Blair nearly all of the time every since. There are four grandchildren: Chas. Pace of Blair; Mrs. C. W. Joy of Council Bluffs; Franklin Pace of Papillion and Mrs. Dan Christensen of Bennington; and ten great grandchildren. She was one of a family of eight children, one brother, George Fox of Ft. Morgan, Colo. and Mrs. James E. Maher, a foster sister, are the only surviving members of the family.

Mrs. Martin was a practical nurse and gave many years of her life to this work in Blair. She is lovingly remembered by many of the older people of Blair because of her kindly administrations.

The funeral was held from the James Maher home on Friday afternoon at four o’clock, Rev. W. H. Underwood officiating.
