Zehrung Suicides

Henry Crowell Zehrung

Lincoln, Neb., Dec. 31-Henry C, Zehrung, one of the best known of Lincoln’s businessmen, committed suicide last night by hanging himself to a rafter in the loft of the barn at his family residence on C Street.

Mr. Zehrung was connected with the Standard Glass and Paint Company, and with his partner and had bought out all the other interests since the organization three years ago. The business is said to have been fairly prosperous.

The preparations for the suicide seem to have been made with great deliberation, his hat, cane and overcoat being deposited on one side, the later neatly folded. It is supposed the new rope with which he hung himself was bought for the purpose.

Last evening Zehrung left his house early saying he was going to attend a meeting, but when he did not return promptly at bedtime his family became uneasy and asked the police to search for him. The body was found about three o’clock this morning.

It is supposed that business depression and gloomy outlook for the future caused the despondency. His depression has been notice by friends for some time.

H. C. Zehrung came to Lincoln about sixteen years ago from Blair, and has been one of the active businessmen of Lincoln since. He was an uncle of Frank Zehrung, the manager of the Funke Opera House. The dead man was well liked by his business associates and others who came in contact with him. He was bout 50 years of age.
