FORMER BLAIR MAN SWEPT TO SEA BY UNDERTOW IN OREGON COAST ACCIDENT

Clifford Brewster, a former Blair man, lost his life last Thursday when his commercial fishing boat was tossed upon a reef and broke up by a vicious undertow on the Oregon Coast. Brewster, 65, was a commercial fisherman and was alone in his 35-ft. trawler.

According to information available, he was alone in the boat and was returning to the harbor at Florence, Oregon. A heavy tide was running out and he entered a river from which water was flowing rapidly to the sea. His boat was forced upon a reef, was broken into pieces and his body was apparently swept to sea with the outgoing tide.

Mrs. Brewster was the former Edna (Tina) Newell, of Arlington.

Besides his wife he is survived by a brother, Pearl of Denver, Colorado; a brother, LeRoy of Superior, California; a sister, Mrs. Calvin Cole, of Blair and a sister, Ella Sue who is Mrs. Art Massau, of Van Nuys, California.

Memorial services will be held at Florence, Oregon on October 4th.
