JOHN GOSSARD PROMINENT HERMAN BUSINESSMAN DEAD

After an illness of one week, John Gossard, prominent businessman at Herman died at the home of his partner, C. R. Gray Tuesday night at 11 o’clock, aged about 60 years.

Mr. Gossard had been a member of the firm of Gray & Gossard, general merchants, for a number of years and previously to this he had engaged in the mercantile business at Spiker.

He was actively engaged in the building up of his hometown, and was a man of strict business integrity, and his passing will be a personal loss to the business and social life of the community in which he had lived for so many years. His wife died a number of years ago, and he is survived by one son, Stanley Gossard of this city.

The funeral is held today at the home of C. R. Gray at 3 o’clock.

The town was quite shocked at the sudden death of John Gossard Tuesday night. While Mr. Gossard has been sick for some time he was supposed to be on the road to recovery. John Marlin Gossard was born at Heyworth McLain County, Illinois June 30, 1858. He came to Nebraska 42 years ago and has resided in Washington County almost constantly since. He was married to Minnie Cooper in 1881 and to this union were born two sons, the eldest died in early childhood. The younger, Stanley, is left to mourn his father’s departure. He also leaves one sister Mrs. Evelyn Bovee, and one brother, Frank.

#3-13 Oct., 1921 - The Enterprise - John Gossard

John Gossard was born at Heyworth, McLean county, Illinois June 30, 1858, and passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 11 p.m. at the Chas. Gray home where he had been under the care of a trained nurse for one week.

He came to Nebraska in early life, and has been a resident of Washington county continuously since.

He was engaged in the mercantile business at Spiker before coming here. He sold his store at that place in 1903 and purchased the interest of Geo. Ackerman in the Ackerman and Gray store here, and has been in the business here since. He is known by everyone and well liked by young and old.

He is survived by one son, Stanley of Blair. His wife having passed away thirty two years ago.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock at the Chas. Gray home. Rev. Kestersen had charge of the services, and the Masonic lodge of which he was a member conducted their services at the grave. Burial was made in the Herman cemetery.
