Bonnie Louise Cowan Johnson was born July 14, 1931, in Henderson, Ky., to William L. and Nellie Mae (Cushman) Cowan. She died August 4, 2018, in Blair.

Growing up the family moved throughout the south, as her father worked with Missouri Valley Authority and the Tennessee Valley Authority. The family returned to Blair in 1945 where she attended and graduated from Blair High school in 1949.

Bonnie met Marvin M. Johnson, who was working at The Blair Sale Barn and they married on April 26, 1950, in Blair. Bonnie and Marvin lived for a short while in West Point, before moving to a farm east of Hartington, where they farmed for nearly 20 years and raised their family. In 1969, they moved back to Blair where Bonnie worked at the Washington County Courthouse and later for Artex. In her retirement, she enjoyed tole painting, and was an avid reader. She was a member of TOPS for 37 years and enjoyed many lifelong friendships and outings with the group.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Sheila K. Gale of Rapid City, S.D.; her son, M. Clark (Linda S.) Johnson of Hartington; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, Christel (Tony) Colter of Labadie, Missouri and children Erica Coulter of Labadie, Missouri, Melissa (Michael) DeWeaver of Fenton, Missouri Tammy (Dwain) Bunch of Box Elder, S.D., and children Raymond Bunch, also of Box Elder; Kayla (Scott) Henderson of Spearfish, S.D., Cherri Deiluiis and children, Austin and Kolby Husted all of Valley Park, Mo.; Andrew (Dawn) Johnson of Norfolk, their children, Breanna of Ashland and Cain of Coleridge; Mary Johnson and fiance Dennis Sewart of Waterbury; Christopher H. (Angela) Johnson and their children, Matthew, Sophia and Tyler, all of Hartington; sister, Alice (LeRoy) Sheets of Central City; brother, Bill (Leota) Cowan of Blair; her brother's former spouse Marilyn Buhr of Guernsey and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Neil Reid, infant grandson Jeremy Johnson and son-in-law Douglas K. Gale.

Services will be held at First Lutheran Church, 2146 Wright in Blair, on Saturday Aug. 18, 2018, at 11 a.m., with family receiving at 10 a.m. Her internment was held Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at the Blair Cemetery and Memorials are designated to D.A.V. And Blair Rescue Squad.
