The body of August Verlautz was brought up here from Omaha last Friday afternoon and laid to rest in the Blair cemetery, near the place where he lived for so many years. He died of Bright's disease on the 24th having been in failing health for the past two years. As a last resort, he was taken to the hospital where he passed peacefully away. The funeral was held at the family residence, 2509 Spencer street. Mr. Verlautz was born June 20th, 1854 at Templin, Germany and came to America with his parents in 1856, settling in Milwaukee, Wis. He came to Blair at the age of 17, making his home with his mother. In 1888, he was married to Katherine Leikauf, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Six children were born to them, three of who are living; Albert G., who lives on a farm near Crookston, Minn and Edna and Helen who lived at home. He was engaged in the harness business here for a good many years and had many warm friends who extend heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. He was a quiet, kindly man, a good father, neighbor and citizen.

AUGUST VERLAUTZ

August Verlautz, a former harness man of Blair, died at his home near Omaha on the night of the 24th inst. His body is to be brought to Blair for interment tomorrow, Friday.

Mr. Verlautz formerly was proprietor of the harness shop now run by Gus Scheffler. He sold his business interests to Mr. Scheffler in August of 1899 and retired on account of his health.

He built the home now owned by George Kahnk, and later built the home now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ruwe.

He was a quiet, unassuming gentleman, honest and upright in his dealings and has many friends here who will be sorry to know of his death.
