LUKE PHILLIPS, FORMER WASHINGTON CO. BOY PASSES AWAY

Luke Phillips, a resident of Box Butte county for thirty five years, was taken suddenly ill at his home near Hemingford, Neb., and passed away Oct. 3, 1921.

Mr. Phillips was a citizen of Washington county years ago, and married a DeSoto girl, Miss Emily Bouvier.

The Hemingford Ledger has the following obituary notice:

Luke Phillips, a pioneer of this county, was born in Huron county, Ohio June 21, 1858, and died at the home of his son, Ora, in Hemingford Monday, Oct. 3, 1921.

Mr. Phillips came to Nebraska in 1883, and located at DeSoto. While there he was united in marriage to Miss Emily V. Bouvier of that place. In 1886 Mr. and Mrs. Phillips came to Box Butte county and located a homestead west of town.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Phillips, Roy, Ray and Ora who are living in this community and Ira whose home at present is in San Diego, Calif.

Mr. Phillips was a successful rancher and bought a number of farms, most of which lay in the immediate vicinity of his original home where he resided all these years. He saw this country at its worst and at its best and was satisfied to spend his last years here.

Last Saturday afternoon he was taken very ill and came to town for medical treatment. Sunday Dr. Slagle of Alliance was called. Medical science was of no avail, and he passed away at 9:45 Monday morning.

He leaves behind him his wife and four sons and one brother, his only close relative, Ira Phillips of Flint, Mich., all of whom will attend the last rites. Mrs. C. M. DePew of Denver and Mrs. S. Allen of Blair, nieces of the deceased, and S. D. Bouvier of DeSoto, brother of Mrs. Phillips, are present at this time.

The funeral services were delayed awaiting the arrival of the brother from Michigan and Ira from California. The services will be held at the M. E. church Friday afternoon at two o’clock in charge of Rev. Palmer of Valentine. Interment will be in the local cemetery. Find a Grave Memorial # 57972285
