Lucius D. Newell

Mrs. L. M. Selden received a telegram announcing the death of her brother, L. D. Newell, at the National Solders Home at Sawtelle, California, on December 5, 1917. He was born in Massachusetts, November 26, 1841. He came to Omaha in 1862 and with his brothers J. W. and J. A. of this city, went to Montana in 1863 at the time of the gold strike. The gold didn’t pan out, but Mr. Newell got a ranch and engaged in the ranch business up to about three of four years ago when he went to the Soldiers Home. He leaves a wife and three brothers, J. W., J. A. and M. D. Newell of Blair, and three sisters, Mrs. L. M. Selden of Blair, Mrs. J. L, Skinner of Coffeyville, Kan., and Mrs. Mattie Davis of Omaha. Mr. Newell came to Blair in 1872 and spent about a year visiting his brothers and sisters.

Find A Grave Memorial #106553870-Mr. Newell served in the Civil War. He enlisted December 9, 1861 in Company H of the 2nd U.S. Sharpshooters. He received a disability discharge on October 12, 1862.
