GRACE HILL RITES HELD

BLAIRITE HAD HELPED MANAGE HALLER PROPRIETARY FIRM 44 YEARS

Miss Grace Hill, 68, native and lifetime resident of Blair, died Saturday at Immanuel hospital in Omaha after a ten-day illness which followed a period of failing health.

For 44 years Miss Hill had served as secretary of the Haller Proprietary Company of Blair, during the years it operated under that name and since it was incorporated into the Charles E. Gaydou business. She and Miss Ida Knox had worked together for the firm the past 29 years.

Funeral services, directed by the Bendorf Funeral Home, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Congregational church, the Rev. Watson F. Lewis officiating. Interment followed in the Blair cemetery. Pallbearers were J.H. Grimm, Ray Hewitt, Edgar Skinner, C.E. Gaydou, Dr. H.F. Swansen and Ray F. Krogh.

ACTIVE CHURCH WORKER

Born here Oct. 3, 1877, Miss Hill was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Hill. Her father was a prominent early-day surveyor. Miss Hill was graduated from Blair high school in 1894.

Long associated with affairs of the Congregational church, Miss Hill was one of that group’s most active workers. She had held a number of offices, and was for many years associated with the Sunday school.

Surviving are two sisters, Misses Ella and Blanche Hill. The three sisters have resided for many years at 401 west Colfax street.

Gathering at the Hill home Tuesday were her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Wentworth of Wayne, and a group of old friends, Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Landers of DeSoto, Mrs. Adelaide Grieb of Omaha and Misses Edith and Grace Neale of Fort Calhoun.

RITES FOR MISS GRACE HILL HELD TUESDAY, JAN. 8

Native Of County, Long Time Business Woman, Church Worker

Miss Grace N. Hill, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hill, died suddenly in the Immanuel Hospital in Omaha last Saturday night, January 5th. Her death followed an illness of about ten days.

She was born in Blair on October 2, 1877. She attended the Blair schools, graduating in 1894. Following her graduation she taught in the schools of the county for five years and then went into the employ of the Haller Proprietary Company.

For nearly forty five years she continued to work with this company and was still in the work when death came.

To those who knew the deceased her death comes as a shock. She was of a quiet, reserved personality and lived as nearly an ideal life as is possible for humans to do. All her life she was a devoted member of the Congregational Church, and she lived the life of a consistent Christian.

She is survived by two sisters, Ella and Blanche, who will miss her greatly as will a host of close friends. The three sisters, after the death of their parents, continued to reside in the home place where they were happy together, but death came and broke the trio and left a trail of sorrow.

The family is one of the early settlers and many friends have been gathered to them during these years who were bound by the highest respect and who now extend sympathy to the bereaved sisters.

Funeral rites were held at the Congregational Church on Tuesday afternoon, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
