Hannah Batty was Early Day Homesteader Here

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today Thursday in the First Baptist Church for Miss Hannah Batty, 83, who passed away at the Big Horn County Community Hospital about 7 p.m. July 5 after an extended illness.

The Rev. Thomas Sargeant of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Mission, Billings, was in charge of services and music was furnished by the choir of St. Thomas Mission. Bullis funeral home was in charge of arrangements and the body was taken to Blair, Neb., for services and burial.

Pallbearers were Frank Kincaid, Roy Peterson, Russell Atkins, Fred Lipp, L. C. Lippert and William Moore.

Miss Batty was born in Clarks, Neb., September 9, 1871, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Batty. She attended schools in Clarks and moved with her family to Blair in 1894 where she taught school before coming to Big Horn County in 1910 to homestead. She has lived on her original homestead, 12 miles west of Hardin, ever since.

Miss Batty was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Mission and a member of Jasmine Chapter No. 65, Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Bertha Barnica, of Ogallala, Neb.
