Death of George Batty

After a brief illness, George Batty passed away at a local hospital Saturday, Sept. 17, 1932, at the ripe age of 76 years. Mr. Batty was a native of Norwood, Pa., where he was born April 29, 1856, and grew to young manhood. He migrated to Nebraska in 1871 and made that state his home until 1923, when he came to Big Horn County, to make his home with his sisters, Misses Hannah and Lucy Batty, on their farm in the North Bench community, near Hardin. While of a rather retiring nature, putting in most of his time on the farm and seldom coming to town, he was a companionable man and highly esteemed by those who had the pleasure of his acquaintance.

Funeral services were held at the Bullis-Crilly Mortuary at three o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. E. H. Wendland, pastor of the Hardin Methodist Church, officiating. B. F. Baldwin, R. Elarth, Mesdames Ping and Ransier, accompanied by Mrs. Wendland, sang three hymns. Monday morning, accompanied by his sister, Miss Hannah Batty, and Anton Person, the remains were taken to Columbus, Neb., where for seven years before coming to Hardin, he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Bertha F. Barnica. Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock funeral services were held at the Columbus Episcopal Chapel and the Episcopal ritual was read at the grave. The pallbearers were all old-time friends. Relatives at the funeral, besides Miss Hannah Batty, were a sister, Mrs. Bertha F. Barnica, husband and daughter, of Big Springs, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Batty, two sons and daughter, of Cedar Rapids, Neb.’ and a niece and nephew from Omaha.

Immediate relatives surviving Mr. Batty are Misses Hannah and Lucy Batty of Hardin; Joe Batty of Baker, Ore.; Mrs. Sarah Rich, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mrs. Bertha Barnica, Big Springs, Neb.
