Funeral services for James W. Brown, Sr., 69, of Woodbine, Iowa, were held Monday, Sept. 24, at the Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine, with Elder Francis Harper officiating. Interment was in the Woodbine Cemetery. Mr. Brown died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

James Wesley Brown Sr. was born June 12, 1932, in Blair to Arthur and Gladys (Taylor) Brown. He grew up in the Blair and Glenwood, Iowa, area. He worked as a mechanic in the Rockford, Ill. area, and drove a juice truck and school bus there.

On Sept. 27, 1962, he married Sylvia Brown. For the last 29 years, the couple lived west of Woodbine. Mr. Brown farmed for Allen Harper for several years, and after retiring, he enjoyed raising cows and chickens.

He is survived by his wife, Syliva, of Woodbine, seven sons and daughters-in-law, James Jr. and Chris Brown of Woodbine, Jerry and Maria Brown of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Bill and Wanda Brown, and Jeff Brown, all of Woodbine, Anthony and Debra Brown of Logan, Iowa, Bob and Ruby Brown, and Jamie and Jamie Brown, all of Woodbine, four daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Morris Mohn of Moorhead, Babby Donelson and Jerry Hughes of Mondamin, Iowa, Darlene and Matt Miller of La Center, Ky., and Becky Brown of Bogalusa, La., 24 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vera and Mel Ratfield of Kennard and Ardith and Ray Whittington of Council Bluffs, a brother, Lloyd Bowns of Lincoln, and several other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gerald and grandsons, Eldon Donelson and Jimmy Lee Brown.

Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine was in charge of arrangements.
