Former Blair area resident Kenneth E. Brown, 79, died Sept. 6, 2005, in Omaha. Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 10, at Roeder Mortuary in Omaha.

Kenneth Everett Brown was born Feb. 22, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Roosevelt High School in Des Moines.

He served in the United States Army as a communications specialist during World War II, and as a guard at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials at the conclusion of the war.

As an agricultural engineer graduate of Iowa State University, he specialized in hydraulics. He began his career at John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa. From 1970 until 1972, he was employed at TransWheel Manufacturing in Blair, and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal to Omaha in 1991.

He enjoyed watching and supporting the Fairway, HunTel and other Blair softball teams. He was active in the Blair Kiwanis chapter and continued to be involved in the Loveland Golden Kiwanis in Omaha. He was an avid bridge player and a loyal Cubs fan.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Craig Dutton of Bennington, Susan and Joseph Gail of Urbandale, Iowa, and Nancy and Brent Foster of Big Timber, Mont.; seven grandchildren, who were a great source of joy throughout his life; and a brother and sister-in-law, Wallace A. and Viola Brown of Runnells, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Shirley, in May 1994.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
