Mrs. Duane Brown passed away at 11 o'clock last Saturday forenoon from the results of a paralytic stroke received on the 28th of March. She hadn't been well during the past winter but wasn't confined to her bed until the stroke of paralysis came. The funeral was held at the Baptist church at 2 o'clock Monday, Rev. C.M. Foreman officiating. Lydia Ellen Hopson was born in Quincy, Ill., May 23rd, 1848 , and was therefore almost 68 years of age at the time of her death. When she was nine years old her parents moved to Guthrie county, Ia., and during a visit with her sister in Harrison county she met Duane Brown, to whom she was married June 11th, 1871. The young couple came to this county and have since made their home in and around Blair. Six children were born to them, three of whom passed over before their mother. Those remaining to mourn her death are: Edwin Brown and Mrs. Bert Haines, of this city, and Mrs. O.J. Merica, of Storm Lake, Ia. Besides the husband and children she leaves two brothers and seven sisters. Mrs. Brown had been a member of the Baptist church in this city for over 23 years, having been baptized on March 26th, 1893. The many friends of the bereaved have the sympathy of the entire community.

Miss Lydia Ellen Hopson was born in Quincy, Ill., May 23, 1848. When she was nine years of age her parents moved to Guthrie county, Iowa. During a visit to her sister in Harrison Co., Iowa, she met Mr. Duane Brown, to whom she was united in marriage, June 11, 1871. The young couple came at once to Washington county, Nebraska, and have made their home in and around Blair, ever since.

Six children were born to this union, three of whom have passed away before the mother, and three remain to mourn their loss. They are Edwin Brown and Mrs. Bert Haines, both of Blair, and Mrs. O.J. Merica, of Storm Lake, Iowa. Besides these children, seven sisters and two brothers are left to share in the grief of the sorrowing husband.

Mrs. Brown has been a member of the Baptist church of this city for more than twenty-three years, having been baptized March 27, 1893.

The deceased had not been well the past winter but was not confined to her bed until the 28th of last month when she had a stroke of paralysis. She passed away last Saturday morning, a little after 11 o'clock, being at the time of her death, 67 years, 10 months and 15 days of age.

The funeral was held at the Baptist church Monday, April 10, at 2 p.m., Rev. C. M. Foreman, pastor of the church officiating.

Washington county lost another pioneer last Saturday when death claimed Mrs. Duane Brown. The deceased was stricken with paralysis on March 28th and never recovered. Mrs. Brown had been ailing all winter.
