Russell E. Brown, 83, a resident of Merced, Calif., for 30 years, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at a Merced area health care facility.

Services were held on Saturday, Aug. 26, at Merced District Cemetery Pavilion.

Russell E. Brown was born Nov. 30, 1916, in Elk City, to Ray and Emma (Misfeldt) Brown. He was a 1937 graduate of Kennard High School.

Mr. Brown attended Merced College and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War, retiring after 28 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Katherine Brown of Merced, daughter, Deborah Tjarks of Champaign, Ill., a son, Bruce Brown of Merced, his sister, Ruth Wiese of Blair and four grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Kennard Alumni Association. The Neptune Society of Central California-Fresno was in charge of arrangements.
